This is a medium to large sized tree when adult. This tree grows very slowly and because of this the wood from this tree is very dense. The bark of this tree is whitefish and yellowish. Four small leaflets come together to form one leaf. When you look at the leaf from this tree you will see that, from the four small leaflets, they are paired up and attach opposite from one another. The leaf is green to dark green in color. Then you look at the leaves, the smaller leaflets, it appears to be slanting to one side. The flowers are white and the seeds come out inside a sheath. The sheath starts out green and turns brown when the seeds are ready or ripe. The wood from the tree is very dense and because of this it was a favorite wood for building projects of the Chamoru people. Today, it is not used for house/ranch building projects, but people still carve other things from this wood, like tables, chairs and the Guam seal.
